Federal authorities provided information following a confrontation between criminal groups in Tecpan de Galeana, Guerrero. The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) confirmed that 16 people lost their lives in the clash between the groups Los Granados and Guerrero Nueva Generación, who are seeking to control the territory.

According to Sedena, the confrontation began in the early hours of October 24 on the road to El Moreno, where 2 municipal police officers lost their lives and four others were injured. Due to the numerical inferiority and lack of weaponry of the municipal officers, the National Guard intervened to assist.

As a result of the confrontation, 14 alleged hitmen were reported dead, 11 were detained, 16 vehicles were seized, and various weapons were confiscated, including 15 long guns, 1 Barret rifle, and 1 Minimi machine gun.

Tecpan de Galeana, located between Zihuatanejo and Acapulco, used to be a peaceful place according to its residents, despite being controlled by Los Granados. Violence erupted with the emergence of Guerrero Nueva Generación, threatening to take control of the territory.

Los Granados, led by Salvador Granados Vargas, alias “Chava Granados” or “The Lord of the Mangos,” have maintained dominance in municipalities such as Tecpan de Galeana, Atoyac de Álvarez, and Coyuca de Benítez for over a decade. Their rival, “Los Rodríguez,” was pushed into other areas following previous disputes.
